Lost In The Trees is an inventive music collective from Chapel Hill, North Carolina helmed by composer and songwriter Ari Picker. The band merges the dramatic symphonic elements of classical music with the accessibility of American folk and modern pop, creating a sound that is simultaneously intimate and sonically ambitious. A Church That Fits Our Needs is a work of vaulting ambition, a cathedral built on loss and transformation. In 2009 Picker lost his mother, an artist in her own right, when she took her own life. With the new record he set about transforming the events into a music...

Buzzbin recently got in touch with the harmonica playing sexy country star, Stacie Collins. We discussed what it was like to be on the road, her history with Cleveland and her love of music. Below is the transcript of our conversation. Go ahead and tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get started? What inspired you? Well, I married a musician. I was a music lover and through my association with my husband Al, who plays bass, I had the opportunity to be immersed in the rock and roll world. He was in bands previously, he was always touring. But eventually we discovered that we h...

Punctuating the “Coreography Council VOL III” festivities on November 26 at Square Records will be a live performance by the darlings of Akron rock and roll, As If, in support of their new self-titled EP. After cutting their teeth in Highland Square for the past four years, it only makes sense to the members of the band that their first release — produced by Ben Vehorn at Tangerine Sound — corresponds with an event that showcases so many of the artists, writers and fellow musicians that give Highland Square its unique voice. “The EP’s been a labor of love over the past six mo...

In an odd turn of musical events Metallica has teamed up with Lou Reed. Yeah, Lou Reed. They're getting an album to you this Fall that is both experimental, very un-Metallica-like, and to be honest...we can't wait to check it out. We won't download it Lars promise! *fingers crossed*. No it isn't called The Velvet Metallica or event Kill Em All Underground. Nope they went with a name that speaks volumes about the project. A name that pays tribute to the combined decades of musical talent and stardom. A name that says "Our music has balls and its cool to do smack to". And that name is LU...

Simple Plan is a Canadian pop punk band that has become many teenagers’ introductions to the genre. With such notable songs as “Addicted,” “Welcome to My Life,” “Shut Up!” and “Untitled (How Can This Happen to Me)” these guys are pretty much all that and a bag of chips. The Binterns sat down with lead guitarist, Jeff Stinco. Nicole: What do you absolutely have to have on tour? Jeff: My cellphone. Probably everyone says that, but the cell phone is actually what you need to keep in contact with your friends, your family. And text messaging in your bunk at night when eve...

After Akron's famed Houseguest had taken an open-ended hiatus, musician David Rich was looking for some new blood to play some tunes. Enter Dave Giffels, who Rich had known since the days of Main Street's now defunct Lime Spider. Giffels' band Difficult had also stopping playing together so the time was fitting. The two dudes started writing music last summer with the likes of Friday Mike and Pat McNulty, who both played in The Same Things that sadly had also called it quits. And May Company was born. Buzzbin Magazine caught up with Rich to discuss the recent workings of this exciting new ...

Whether you call them Roots, Rock, Americana, Alt-Country, folk, or whatever, The Rustlanders continue to excite audiences everywhere. The beauty of this band, or any band worth listening to, is that they fit don’t fit perfectly into any one category but their own. Multiple influences abound, some apparent, some subtle, to form what this band would simply call it’s own version of Rock and Roll.Grog Shop August 12th! 8/12 Grog Shop • Cleveland Hts. ...

For the last decade, Interpol has been one of the darlings of the independent music scene. Their seminal first album, “Turn On The Bright Lights,” was released in 2002 to massive critical acclaim. Nearly ten years later, they’re still going strong. Interpol is famous as a New York City band, but part of their roots are right here in Ohio. Their very first U.S. tour began in Cleveland, at a little spot called the Grog Shop. Ever since, they’ve made a point of stopping in Ohio when they can. “We always have good shows in Ohio,” said Daniel Kessler, guitarist, vocalist and founding...

The Dead Records are young, intense and seriously rocking. Composed of Aaron Taylor (vocals, guitar), Chad Briner (guitar), Will Magley (bass) and Sean Richardson (drums), Fort Wayne, Ind.-based The Dead Records sound like a cross between The Gaslight Anthem and The Hold Steady. They’ll be playing the Buzzbin First Friday Concert on July 1 with Maid Myriad. We talked to Richardson, who gave us the lowdown on what moves these earnest guys. The Dead Records is an interesting name. What’s the story behind it? The name of the band came from the belief that with the increase in digital te...

Before The White Stripes try to claim fame to the two-man rock group, the fellas of Local H have got them beat. The band, originated by Scott Lucas on vocals and guitar and Joe Daniels (who was later replaced by Triplefastaction’s Brian St. Clair) on drums, has made a career out of mixing indie rock with the classic sounds of yesteryear. Through often-humorous lyrical stylings and rock and roll power chords, Local H has created a sound that has lasted for nearly two decades. Songwriter Scott Lucas took time from the band’s busy touring schedule to answer a few questions about the band and ...
