Everybody who’s been to Nelson’s Ledges knows Jones for Revival, the Mahoning Valley’s own groovy, good-vibed jam band. The band prides itself on creating a fun and friendly environment everywhere it performs. Soon, you’ll be able to take more of its funky sound with you. The band is currently working on a second album and things are going to be more jamming than ever. I caught up with Jimmy DeCapua, the band’s lead guitarist, vocalist and founding member. He remembered the early days when he studied jazz guitar and sociology at Kent State University back in 2003, the days before ...
Hailing from Philadelphia, Good Old War has strived to create rapturous indie folk tunes for the last three years. Comprised of Keith Goodwin, Daniel Schwartz and Tim Arnold, Good Old War splits its time between recording folk-rock songs that would make Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel blush and serving as Circa Survive frontman Anthony Green’s backing band, both in the studio and on the road. Goodwin and Arnold originally made waves with the progressive rock band Days Away before calling it quits and forming Good Old War. The band obtained their unique name from taking portions of each music...
When thinking of an extended metaphor for Red Wanting Blue’s new album “From the Vanishing Point,” many thoughts ran through my head, weddings, dinners with in-laws, first dates, and the “Saw” films and so on. However, I decided to keep it relatively clean with my following breakdown of the Ohio rocker’s 9th album. “From the Vanishing Point” is like soft core porn. The first half tries to add some substance by creating some phony plotline that everybody knows is a ruse to trick unsuspecting channel surfers to keep watching. It’s deceivingly clean, prim and proper, easily d...
The Matrimonials When this Baltimore band finally hits the right ears, they’re going to be unstoppable. They’ve self-released two fantastic albums of indie rock candy that are both quirky and anthemic — a rare feat these days. Both are on regular rotation in my iPod. Plus, their live show will blow your mind: They played at the Auricle in Canton in June and the beer and rock flowed like a roaring geyser. As noisy and drunken as early Pavement albums but with a poppy heart, I highly recommend these guys. Album to get: “New Jams to Slam in your Jam Box” The Said So Canton's ver...
By Julia Kazar Now that summer has finally come to Akron many people are beginning to make travel plans for the season, The Young Veins are no exception; they want us all to Take a Vacation! and bring their debut album along too. For their first album, The Young Veins seem to be ahead of the game, they sound like they have been playing together for a lifetime. Just one year ago Ryan Ross and Jon Walker left Panic! at the Disco for creative reasons, not long after they joined forces with Andy Soukal, Nick Murray, and Nick White to form The Young Veins. Even though 40% of the ...
By Julia Kazar RumbleDaddy is coming to Annabell’s Bar & Lounge in Akron Friday night! Be prepared for a little bit of everything from songs about zombies to porn when this band takes the stage. With a unique sound that consists of country, rockabilly, psychobilly, rock, and what ever else the band decides they want to throw in there, they’re sure to have at least one song that you like. Even though their sound might be a little eclectic, one thing is for sure; when RumbleDaddy play it is sure to be a one of a kind show. Formed only two years ago, they are already becoming one ...
By Hack Harbinger Russett Burbank is a multi-layered metal/alt band coming out of Sandusky, Ohio. Their new album is called “Stranger Things.” You’ll find stranger things here, indeed. Sandusky is known more for rollercoasters than rock bands, and yes, oddly enough, the band name is from the famed potato used to make French fries. What could be better than the lethal combo of rock, rides and fries? In all seriousness, “Stranger Things” opens with two straight up solid rock songs, “Burnt Fingers” and “Lazy.” “Lazy” starting acoustically comforting then turning into ...
