If seeing is believing, than those who had the unique opportunity to witness the latest Cirque du Soleil show to hit NE Ohio, are still in disbelief. For seven nights , at Cleveland’s Wolstein Center, the performers of Dralion, attempted to show the delicate balance between the elements of earth, air, water and fire, and they delivered on all fronts and did it with a harmony only a Cirque performance could elaborate. From the vaudevillian clowns who punctuated the show with slapstick and madcap mayhem, to the interweaving of African, Chinese and Indian music and costumes, Dralion translat...

What is the color of music? How can a sound have a color at all? Halim El-Dabhs explores the concept of hearing colors and seeing sounds in a collection of his works titled “Sound, Color and Vision.” All ten pieces are simple acrylic paintings on canvas. In fact, he will be performing some of the works during the opening reception on September 3, at Standing Roc...

Their smart and playful vocals and lyrics aren’t the driving force here, but they don’t hurt. This is a sextet of songwriters, and with wailing saxophones and keys soloing over riffs that change u...

The likelihood of one of this decade’s most reputable punk bands creating an entire album of mariachi music is pretty slim. In the case of such an occurrence, the notion that the album will actually be good is even more doubtful. Without hesitation, Los Angeles-based The Bronx has defeated such odds with the promising debut of their alter ego Mariachi El Bronx’s self-titled album. While it may seem irreverent for a punk band to make an album of mariachi music, The Bronx begs to differ. Their music has always been deeply entrenched within the Los Angeles scene and lifestyle, and mariachi’...
