We’re always on the lookout for cool new music here at Buzzbin. We search and scour the corners of the Internet, scraping up aural oddities and free downloads. Sometimes you find a hidden gem amongst all of the clones. Chicago’s Michael Lux and the Bad Sons are diamonds in a pile of rocks. Their reverb-fueled pop terror has been deemed too dangerously addictive to sell; therefore the five-song EP “Neat Repeater” has been federally mandated to be free to the public. We highly recommend searching for this incredible freebie. It’s a slice of indie-rock pie that is just damned delicious....

If you think the Canton music scene has struggled in recent years compared to other northeast Ohio cities, you must not have heard Come Wind. Choosing not to settle for the typical metal sound found in the area, the boys of Come Wind have instead crafted a sound that would make fans of the mid-’90s indie music scene smile cheek to cheek. Singer Nick Sayre, guitarist Aaron Troyer and drummer Ben Roth first got acquainted in the hardcore band Forthewhile before meeting up with bassist Tal Miller to try a different angle. “That band broke up, and we wallowed around with nothing to do ...

Back in 2010, The Get Up Kids put out their first album in six years. It was a four-song EP called “Simple Science,” and it is classic form of The Get Up Kids’ alt-pop-punk music. Bands like Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy have noted The Get Up Kids as an influence, and you can hear the similarities, especially in the singing style of the Blink boys. The first track, “Your Petty Pretty Things,” is an upbeat track about getting to the lowest of lows with a William S. Burroughs loop. “Keith Case” is the second track on the EP. It’s a heavier track with themes of lies and ...

Kent has been the home to more than a few gems of the local music scene, which over their existence have made quite a name for themselves on a national level. Harriet the Spy. Party of Helicopters. Six Parts Seven. Since hearing their 2009 debut full-length Each and Everyone, I have added Annabel to that prestigious list. The band is back with their second EP, Here We Are Tomorrow, which is currently available in a beautifully designed 7-inch record thanks to the fine folks at Tiny Engines. Annabel has retained that indie rock sound with just enough punk edge to boast their charm. Liste...

By: Julia Kazar The Goo Goo Dolls are getting ready to release their ninth studio album, which should be available by the end of August.  If you don’t want to wait that long to hear some new music from the band, you can download Waiting for the Rest of It from their website, or pick up the five song EP at one of their concerts this summer. Aptly titled, Waiting for the Rest of It is a preview of their album containing four new songs and a live version of their 1998 smash hit “Broadway.”  The live version still sounds just as incredible as the original. The first single off th...

By E.M. Serensky Some band names just stick. Groove Pipe is one such band. They got their name when they sat down and each threw out a few words. The following day, they tried to remember some of the names that they had come up with. Groove Pipe was the only choice that they could remember, thus making it the winner. Simple as that. Formed in 2004, Groove Pipe is Chad, Matt and Brian. In that time, they have released two albums. One is a six song EP, The Fall (2007). The other is a full-length album, Hangman (2008). Groove Pipe is mainly influenced by Alice in Chains, which is a g...

By D. Beall It’s $1 Steak Night at the Pearl Road Tavern in Old Brooklyn, and I’m sitting at a table with red bearded singer Gary Kane and shaven headed guitarist Metal Jay Bonnel; representatives from what I’ve been told is the stoner metal band to watch out for, Cleveland’s Forged in Flame. Absent are bassist Jay Clark and drummer Jon Vinson. Also in attendance- Trip from Studbulls Disco Biscuit. The beers are cheap, the steaks are bloody and the interview is laid back. We talk a little about the Jigsaw Saloon days, when self-proclaimed business guru Phil Lara sponsored their ...

By D. Beall Standing outside the Beachland Tavern, I run into Andy Anderson the Fourth from Austin Texas’ own White Rhino on the sidewalk. He’s long-haired, lanky, leather jacket clad and younger than I’d imagined. They’re on a five week tour, and they’ve come from Dayton; it was the East Village in New York City the night before that. It’s Detroit tomorrow, but tonight it’s Cleveland, and Anderson IV is enthusiastic. This is the band’s first time in Cleveland. After rave reviews at SXSW, the band has gone on tour with a new three song EP called Heroin Thunder. “We...

By Hack Harbinger Don’t like radio music? Do you want to go heavier, darker and deeper? Then check out Stonebride, a four-piece band from Zagreb, Croatia. I think Dracula was from around there and probably would have nominated these guys to write his life soundtrack. “Inner Seasons,” the five song EP, takes you down a demented rabbit hole that would have Alice praying for light. Blues driven at its base, the sound takes Mississippi mud and stews it with a heavy psychedelic vibe that hasn’t been tapped into since Black Sabbath. If you are into three-minute songs, look elsewhe...
