Well folks, thankfully we are still alive and drinking. Christmas was wonderful, and New Year's Eve was a blast, but quite frankly this has been the worst apocalypse ever. However, since things did not go the way the Mayan’s planned I can continue to drink good beer. I am starting off 2013 by drowning my sorrows with Founders Breakfast Stout. The first time I tried this beer was on draft at the Auricle in Canton. Also, during my first visit there I was surprised by their craft brew selection on tap. It was a small cup with a hefty price tag, but filled with divine elixir. I suggest drinking ...

FOUR LOCAL BREWS FOR THOSE EARLY SUMMER BBQs Those looking for a little change this May should track down these four Ohio beers that are definitely worth a drink. While some might be easily obtainable, other could take a little soul-searching and can only be found on draft at your local craft-beer bar. Nonetheless, here are our favorite beers brewed in the good ol' Buckeye State. – Aaron Fowler Columbus Brewing Company Creeper This beer has the aroma of a West Coast-style India Pale Ale but the taste of a hoppy barleywine. Tropical fruit, citrus and pine fill the aroma, while grapefru...

When I was informed that Oskar Blues’ Ten Fidy is the greatest beer to ever come out of an aluminum can, I began my own quest to locate it. As a fan of both imperials and canned beer, I’m here to tell you: This canned imperial stout is the best of both worlds. My search for Ten Fidy began online at the Oskar homepage. According to the site, no distributors in Ohio sell this beer. I thought my quest was over before it began, but luck was with me and I adventured afar to find my relic. Okay, I didn’t have to battle a stubborn black knight, answer three questions or prove to a mob whe...

If you're a craft beer fanatic with a sweet tooth prepare to have both your taste preference pleased at once, as Beercandy combines the two. The company makes caramels and taffy infused with beer as one of the main ingredients. The caramels retail for $7.50 for a four piece two-ounce box and $18.50 for a 12 piece six-ounce box. The caramels come in four craft beer styles/flavors. The lambic caramel uses a berry sour beer to make the candy, which is then coated in dark chocolate and pink candy lines. Lager blends butterscotch, caramel, biscuit and a malts flavors, covered in milk chocolat...

Oakshire Brewing Company of Eugene, Oregon will release its second Barrel Aged Beer under the label Hellshire on Saturday November 12th. The second beer in the Hellshire series is an Imperial Stout that was 100% aged in Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels for 7 months. It is 10.5...

Madison's Cellar Rats Brewery will follow in the footsteps of other Ohio breweries such as Great Lakes and Thirsty Dog when they begin to release their Rat Tail Ale in bottles beginning this month. Aside from building a new brewhouse, Cellar Rats purchased a 15-barrel Premier Stainless system, 30-barrel fermenters and a small bottling line to expand its operation, which will increase he brewing capacity from 180 gallons to 900 gallons a day. The brewery, whose estate also is home of the Debonne Vineyards, has also began growing hops on the vineyard property and has currently planned an a...

Bluegrass Brewing Company ages this stout for 60 days in barrels that once held Jefferson’s Reserve Bourbon. I unexpectedly lucked into this brew through a friend after a stressful committee meeting. I was extremely grateful — not just to have a good beer when I needed it, but have I mentioned that it’s aged in bourbon barrels? You find great beers sometimes in the most unlikely places. The beer poured dark chocolaty brown, looking almost black in the mug. The bubbly head had creamy foam that formed quickly but receded easily. Lacing was a thin bubbly collar which, when swirled, disap...

What would you do for a beer? Help a buddy move? Send your eight-year-old to the corner convenience store? Buy admission to an industrial park in Munster, Indiana? For those willing to do the last — and there are thousands — there’s Dark Lord Day, a festival celebrating the release of Munster-based brewery Three Floyds’s acclaimed Dark Lord Russian imperial stout. Now in its third year, Dark Lord Day began as a way to dispense the wildly in-demand brew: Would-be drinkers purchased “golden” tickets that permitted them a number of bottles. Those lucky few attended the fes...

Here's the premise:  We give this beer drinking dude Ryan a bunch of different beers which we have purchased at one of our favorite beers stores, Portage Lakes Brewing Co. (365 beers in store.,..one for every day of the year!  Call 330-644-BEER ), and he takes them one by one to the head.  If he gives it a thumbs up then we're good, otherwise, well you get the point.  This week he has reviewed Sierra Nevada Glissade.  Check the video below. Ryan's word: Many mountain climbers know the best way down a snowy hill is to employ a technique known as the glissade. This may sound hairy to...

This year saw the release of Dogfish Head’s latest one-off creation, Bitches Brew. The beer was previewed at the SAVOR beer-and-foodie convention in Washington, DC this June and its official debut even garnered a feature on the Discovery Channel’s new show, Brew Masters. Brewed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the seminal Miles Davis album by the same name, Bitches Brew is as unique as Dogfish Head’s motto, “Off-centered beer for off-centered people”. Bitches Brew has been tricky to acquire since its first batch ended, though the Dogfish Head website advertises that a sec...
